Web Trends Report

Ordered from most important to least important:

1. Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Artificial intelligence (AI), from a web developer's perspective, is a trend that helps automate several lower-effort tasks previously done by hand, such as basic coding, creating contact forms, grammatical checks, etc. One can also utilize its machine learning capabilities to pick up on user behaviors and have it recommend improvements to a site based on how users wish to interact with it.

AI is definitely on its way to becoming a standard in our industry. The automation helps speed up development time considerably. Plus, its machine learning functions helping to detect trends will be a major boon for the industry as a whole.

2. Parallax-scrolling

A trend that has the web background move slower than the foreground content (such as text), creating a 3D-like depth (as illustrated on this page). It has been utilized since 2011 in order to create more dynamic feeling websites and attract people through its eye catching and unique design work.

I would definitely say this will become a standard, if it hasn't become one already! This technique is a simple yet effective way to add depth and creative energy to what would otherwise be a static page in a vast sea of static interwebs.

3. mobile sites

A trend in which websites reorganize elements of a web page to better suit viewing on smaller screens. This can be as simple as making text larger for reading to more complex like hiding elements unnecessary on certain devices (such as an aside or a regular, non-dropdown navigation bar).

This will more than likely become a standard in the future, as it is surely well on its way to becoming one already. The convenience of being able to view a web page no matter what size your screen is will help attract more and more eyes to a site (perhaps some that wouldn't have given it the time of day previously).

4.dark ui

Dark UI (more commonly referred to as "dark mode") offers the ability to change a website's design to a darker pallate of colors. It is intended to help strain on our eyes as we grow more intandem with technology and screen usage. It also offers the ability to extend battery life and give users an additional choice in how they want your website to look while browsing it.

Despite these benefits, Dark UI/mode becoming a standard is a tough question to answer. Ultimately, it takes time to code another design pallate on top of the main one, taking precious development time and resources away from the core structure of the site. I'm sure this trend will stick around, but it won't likely become a necessity on web pages in the future.

5. Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMPs)

Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMPs) is a feature created by Google to help speed up loading times on certain pages without compromising on a page's unique design work. The process for creating an AMP is more streamlined and built for speed than normal HTML, attracting a wider audience to a website as a result.

While this trend seems to have caught on with news articles, there doesn't seem to be much attraction to this trend for other types of sites. Therefore, I can't really say it will become a standard in the future, but rather a useful asset to keep in our back pockets for certain cases.
